In Focus: 4 + 1 Macro Skills in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

 

Course Program Brief Description:

The literature in the teaching of English/other languages gives four macro skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. With technology transforming life as we know it and affecting every aspect of 21st century living, the use and power of the internet led the Department of Education to add another macro skill, that of viewing. With the use of technology, students are enabled to access online resources that facilitate their learning. The three-day course/seminar will clarify concepts and develop skills in these five macro skills in the age of artificial intelligence.

 

Intended Outcomes:

     1.Define key concepts relevant to the topics covered;

     2.Analyze visuals, images and pictures, 21st century literary texts and news articles;

     3.Transcode from visual-to-verbal and verbal-to-visual; and

   4.Share challenges and best practices on the teaching of language in the age of artificial intelligence.
